What I Wish People Understood
03-25-2026
Above all else, I wish everyone understood that your death and sudden illness were completely unexpected. This wasn’t a sad but expected outcome, it was a completely shocking tragedy out of left field. The most likely cause based on all evidence, was an aggressive cancer unrelated to any existing conditions.
-But Neville had chronic conditions, didn’t they cause this?
NO! His chronic conditions were well managed and do not cause sudden severe AKI out of nowhere. Multiple tests and his symptoms and aggressive timeline show that this was completely out of the blue. His chronic conditions, as long as they stayed well controlled, did not lower his life expectancy.
-But Neville was old.
False! For his breeds, he was only just entering his early senior years. He should have easily had 1/4th of his life left to live.
-It was his time
I will never believe this. Life is just cruel and stole a perfect beautiful innocent boy away from his mother.
-He would want you to be happy
This will never resonate with me. I know what he wanted. He wanted to be with his mommy in my lap. He did not want to leave me. Even on his last day, he pushed up on all fours (he could walk but didn’t want to) and insistently walked toward me until I put him in my lap. He just wanted his mommy’s lap.
-Well his quality of life couldn’t have been that good being his age with his conditions
FALSE! He had an AMAZING quality of life that no competent vet or human would have questioned. He LOVED life so much. He ran around like a 2 year old puppy. He had full mobility, able to jump up on his hind legs, grip a toy so strong that he could bear his weight, chase mice at the speed of light. He swam, walked, played tug of war for hours everyday with mom and every night hunted bugs for hours.
