Detours

Neville LOVED to go in the car, mostly to get to where we were going and see all his human friends, but he also loved to look out the window, smell the wind and survey the scenes. He would bark fiercely if anyone dared to walk outside the vehicle within eyesight. He’d also watch the birds flying around and bark at them too.
Neville loved being on a car trip so much that, I would often take a detour on our way home just to prolong that sweet time together. Neville particularly loved to see other animals on our drives. So I would go to areas where I knew there were cows, goats, horses etc. These were often in rural areas where I could slow down or even stop and open the window so he could take in the sights and smells. He loved this so much and I just knew he was dreaming about running after them and investigating exactly what they were up to. After all, in his mind, he was rottweiler sized and in my heart this is true.
One of our all time favorite detours was the pet store. We particularly liked to stop by the pet store after Neville’s physical therapy sessions. Neville loved to pick out a new toy. He was very selective about the process and would search for awhile before he found the one. It was so fun to watch the joy he had in this process.
