A Day in the Life of Neville

My days started by ensuring mom woke up in a timely manner. This could mean giving her a lick on the lips while she was sleeping or starting more softly with an errrr sound and escalating to full barks as necessary. Once mom was fully awake, then the first cuddle session of the day would occur. I would look deep into mom’s soul and she into mine while she gave me belly rubs and we told each other how lucky we were to be together and how much we loved each other. Then I would get my greenie! I’d gobble it up very quickly. Sister always takes her time eating it which I will never understand. Next up we’d go potty outside and ensure that the yard was secure. Once we completed that important task, mom would get my insulin ready so it could warm up to room temp while I ate breakfast. She would mix up my breakfast and give me my morning meds. I love food so much so this is of course one of my all time favorite times of day. After I finished my breakfast, mom and I would settle into position to chill for a little bit on days mom didn’t have to work.

Everyday mom and I would play with my current favorite toy. I would always be sure to tell mom when it was time to play, get treats, take a break, or go outside for another potty/patrol break. Mom would sing and dance with me. She always checked in on me and I with her. I would always watch her so I knew exactly what she was up to. On days mom worked, I made sure to tell her when her workday was over. She tended to forget, so this was my very important task. She was always good at listening once I reminded her.

We’d do dinner much the same way as breakfast. I always did a happy dance twirling all the way to my dinner spot. If mom was cooking that night, I’d always supervise. I had so many important jobs and one of them was inspecting what mom was cooking. Anything dog safe, I’d taste test for quality of course. Mom needed constant supervision.

When mom ate she always made a veggie side for me and my cat brother Comet. I was annoyed I had to wait for Comet to take his piece, but I still waited patiently. I loved green beans (fresh, canned or frozen), cauliflower, and cucumbers.

Once everyone had eaten dinner, we would move on to our most sacred duty of keeping the bug population in check. We would sit outside for hours each night and hunt those bugs. June bugs are my absolute favorites of all time ever! But I will also eat moths, crickets, grasshoppers and sometimes try stink bugs and spiders even though mom says they aren’t tasty and might bite back. Mom would always help me catch the bugs I couldn’t reach.

I love bedtime so much! Mom would give me my nighttime meds and then get my specially made frozen bedtime treat. This was usually water, gelatin and chicken or turkey baby food. Sometimes mom would switch it up with a doggie bone broth. I had a little holder that these went into so I could eat it up easily! Mom often sat this out a bit before we went to bed so it could warm up a bit for me. I’d eagerly follow her to bed knowing I was getting my final treat of the day (don’t worry, I got some throughout the night when I took mom out for nighttime potty breaks).
